QUEENSLAND’S Liberal-National Party government is continuing to oversee police state tactics against private property owners with forced, unlawful entry of fire ant contractors on to private property with police backup.
In the Gatton district yesterday, a team of fire ant contractors forced their way into Trevor Hold’s property with the help of police and when he attempted to stop the team members spreading the poison on his yard. Police pounced on him, causing an injury that required five stitches.
Mr Hold is a leading opponent of the fire ant program which involves spreading poisoned corn over properties by teams contracted by Queensland Biosecurity. Widespread deaths of wildlife are being reported along with suspected poisoning of livestock that is exposed to the poison.
Fire ant nests are easily destroyed by sprinkling a small amount of petrol or diesel on a nest then setting it alight.
Libertarian Senate candidate Jim Wilmott said the government’s authoritarian tactics were reminiscent of the Covid times – storming private land, dismissing consent, and deploying police to crush dissent. “This is a blatant assault on freedom,” he said.
Jim Willmott is taking a stand against this overreach, fighting for Queenslanders’ right to control their land and shield their families, livestock, and environment from unnecessary chemical baits.
“Nobody wants fire ants to spread, but this isn’t about pests – it’s about power. Will you let the government trample your liberties?”
Senator Gerard Rennick says he’s been asked by many constituents about the way fire ants are being managed in Queensland. “It’s my strong view that indiscriminate spraying of fire ants is ineffective and alienating local communities,” he said.
“When fire ants are identified, by all means they should be removed. But it is completely pointless to be spraying where fire ants don’t exist.
“I have expressed that view to the relevant State Minister who is responsible for the fire ant program.”
