The firewall didn’t just weaken. It detonated. The center in Europe has lost its grip and the populist right-wing is surging.
“For the first time, populist or far-right parties are leading the polls in the U.K., France and Germany.” Political Wire
“Surge in immigration and weak economic growth spark voter backlash in France, the U.K. and Germany” WSJ
Germany’s defenses crumbled. The AfD isn’t a fringe warning anymore. It is the front-runner.
“The poll from German broadcaster RTL put the AfD at 26%, ahead of the ruling Christian Democrats at 24%.” The London Economic
The parties under surveillance for extremism now sit at the pinnacle. Intelligence flags and warnings failed to stop voters from promoting the threat. The system’s firewall was irrelevant.
France accelerated into chaos. Embezzlement bans, EU sanctions, or leader disqualifications mean nothing to voters who crave rupture.
“The far-right National Rally is comfortably polling first, even with its leader Marine Le Pen banned from running for president in 2027 for embezzling EU funds.” Axios
Britain surrendered to the same momentum. The old parties hollowed out. Reform Party inherited the void.
“Nigel Farage’s Reform Party has a double-digit lead over both the ruling Labour Party and the Conservatives.” Axios
The scale of the upheaval is grotesque and unprecedented in modern history.
“That could provoke a period of political turbulence in all three countries, even if national elections are likely still a few years away.” Political Wire
Italy has already fallen. Hungary never stood. Sweden flirts with extremism. Poland wavers. The center promised stability and delivered surrender. The institutions designed to prevent collapse are now documenting it.
Europe’s political architecture isn’t crumbling tomorrow. It is collapsing today. The voters have seized the keys and the guardians are helpless witnesses.
Let‘s think it thru:
1. Germany really bans AfD
2. Socialists, communists and greens have majority overnight, Merz is out
3. Markets reprice 10y Bunds yield to 4%
4. With spreads, bond yields in France, Italy and Spain jump into Euro crisis territory
